Biography

Kira Tucker is a 2024-25 Artist in Residence at Northwestern University, where she earned both an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English with a focus on environmental literature. As a University Fellow, she also worked at The Writing Place and tutored students incarcerated in Illinois detention centers through the Northwestern Prison Education Program.

The recipient of fellowships and support from the Mellon Foundation, the Poetry Foundation, the Hurston/Wright Foundation, Tin House, and Furious Flower Poetry Center, Tucker was also a recent finalist for a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship.

Tucker’s work, which centers on dreaming, haunted ecologies, and examining the landscapes of our collective unconscious, is published or forthcoming in Tupelo Quarterly, The Iowa Review, Poetry Online, Jazz & CultureThe Spectacle, and elsewhere. A Chicago-based Memphis native, she is an Associate Agent with the Shipman Agency and a managing editor for TriQuarterly.
