In June, Chicago's Newcity Lit announced its 2014 group of Chicago's top local writers, their Lit 50. Stuart Dybek, Distinguished Writer in Residence, was at the top of the list, which also included Chris Abani, Board of Trustees Professor of English. A number of English department alumni, including Cristina Henriquez, undergrad alumna of our Creative Writing Major and former Blattner Visiting Assistant Professor of creative writing, and Veronica Roth, alumna of our undergrad Creative Writing Major," are also prominently featured.

Associate professor Susie Phillips has been announced as the 2014-17 Alumnae of Northwestern Teaching Professor, one of the most distinguished teaching awards conferred by the University. The award recognizes faculty who have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance in classroom teaching or who have developed significant innovations that have influenced the teaching effectiveness of others.
