Edwin L. Shuman Awards

Edwin L. Shuman received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern in 1887 and his master’s in 1890 while working at the Northwestern student newspaper and The Evanston Press. After taking a year off to travel through Alaska, he worked as a literary editor and editorial writer at a series of magazines and newspapers in Chicago and New York, including the Chicago Journal, the Chicago Tribune, Current History (published in the Sunday New York Times), and the International Book Review.
